What Magento version am I using?
If you have ever has frustrating Magento experiences because of slow loading pages, you must have wanted to switch to another platform. Before you do that, make sure you at least try to troubleshoot to have a more concrete idea of what could be wrong in how you are handling and using the platform.
For starters, the most common reason why Magento has lags is when you have not updated your app. Because Magento is a self-hosted platform, you should always make sure that you are running the latest version for a fully optimized experience.
How do you find out which Magento version you are in? There are two ways you can easily do so, mostly depending on the Magento app you are using. It is of course, easier in Magento 2, which is the platform’s new and improved version.
In Magento Community Edition
- There is a copyright notice in /skin/frontend/default/default/css/styles.css.
- There are columns showing both the version and the copyright. The Copyright shows you the year, which could confirm if you are on the latest one.
In Magento 2
- It is so much easier to check your current version in Magento 2. Just browse shop-domain.tld/magento_version. It will automatically show you the version, although there is no information about the exact version, like the year it was released.
- If, however, the URL is blocked, check /static/frontend/Magento/blank/en_US/css/print.css. It will show you two columns, as in the Magento Community Edition. The columns will show the version and the copyright with year, but still without the exact path version.
As a Magento merchant whose store depends on the platform, you should take full responsibility in making sure you are running the latest, most updated version. You can only experience Magento’s potentials when the version you are using is updated. If so, you can expect Magento themes to work perfectly, and sell online without much hassle and issues.
